Announces Back to School Partnership with a West Africa Country

2019 Pack the Box with school supplies for children in Sierra Leone

Richmond— June 26, 2019 — Today, the Founder and Executive Director Shonda Harris-Muhammed, of Northside Coalition for Children, Inc. announced an opportunity to collaborate with a West Africa country, Sierra Leone, to ensure that children in a country filled with poverty receive school supplies for free. Education in Sierra Leone has been a challenge. The devastating Sierra Leone Civil War that lasted from 1991 to 2002 took the nation’s education system as an early casualty, wiping out 1,270 primary schools and forcing 67 percent of all-school aged children out of school in the year 2001 (The Borgen Project, 2015). M.M. Fofanah, the founder of Heal the Children Organization and Action for Health, Education, and Development (AHEAD) founded in Sierra Leone and a native of Sierra Leone suggested this partnership. Shonda Harris-Muhammed in collaboration with Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. Pi Rho Omega Chapter, will not only bring a global awareness to the immediate need of partnerships to support children in global poverty but bring a much needed awareness to the resources needed for all children regardless of where they reside. This is a great opportunity to collaborate with organizations such as Pi Rho Omega of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc, and AHEAD to eliminate barriers for children obtaining an education stated Founder and Executive Director of NCC, Shonda Harris-Muhammed. At the end of the day, it is about the children!

Positive International Impact Through Collaboration

Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated®, Pi Rho Omega Chapter exemplifies service to all mankind through five targets: HBCU for Life: A Call to Action, Women’s Healthcare and Wellness, Building Your Economic Legacy, The Arts, and by making a Global Impact. The three organizations will collaborate on August 10, 2019 alongside Celebration Church to distribute backpacks to children on August 10, 2019 from 9am-10am for teachers and 10am-1pm for students.
